Cosmetic overinformation, how to avoid it
Sometimes, using too many cosmetics or even a bad combination of them can end up damaging our barrier function.
Hello, I'm Beauty Coach from Natvral Lavde and today I'm going to talk to you about this very current topic.
The cosmetics sector is constantly evolving and every day new and different products appear that we are tempted to try: creams, masks, scrubs, anti-aging products, serums, mists...
But we cannot forget that our skin is not prepared for everything that is thrown at it; Sometimes, less is more.
How do we know?
Cosmetic over-information, how can you avoid it?
Today... a super interesting topic, how to know if you use too many skin products. Are you sure that your cosmetic routine is correct and that you don't use too many products for your skin?
The most important thing our skin has is its barrier function, its defense function against external aggressions.
Sometimes, using too many cosmetics or even a bad combination of them can end up damaging our barrier function.
The cosmetics sector is constantly evolving and every day new and different products appear that we are tempted to try: creams, masks, scrubs, anti-aging products, serums, mists...
But we cannot forget that our skin is not prepared for everything that is thrown at it; Sometimes, less is more.
The skin speaks to us and we must be attentive.
First of all, we always have to know our skin type and its needs. The skin does not always have the same needs at the same age nor in all seasons of the year due to the climate.
If we use too many products or try “miracle” home remedies that are not suitable for our skin type, not only will we not solve our problems, but we will cause new ones.
When redness, eczema, peeling, rashes or small pimples appear on the skin, we have to be alert. It is due to a bad combination of cosmetics or saturation of the skin, which instead of benefiting us ends up harming us.
On some occasion you may have asked yourself if it is really necessary to include all the active ingredients that we hear about in your routine and as I have told you before, the answer is NO.
What to do when our skin asks for help?
I am going to give you different clues so that you can quickly identify if the cosmetic you are using is the right one for your skin:
- Excess shine : indicates that we are overdoing it with the hydration of our skin
- Rashes or small pimples : it means that it is necessary to switch to oil-free products, since the pore has excess oil and needs to be oxygenated
- Peeling or appearance of fine wrinkles : it suggests that we are falling short when it comes to the hydration that the cosmetic provides you
- Redness: shows that the product we use irritates us, since it is too strong or its PH irritates our skin barrier.
- Eczema: they appear as a result of not having paid attention in time to the changes that have arisen.
And at this point…The million dollar question!
How many products to use and in what order?
This is simple, it depends on the needs of each skin type and the preferences that each person has. Specifying a specific number of products to use is very personal.
First of all, I assume that we already know that we start our skincare with good facial hygiene, where we have previously used an alcohol-free cleanser with balanced PH so that it leaves our skin soft and hydrated.
Remembering, do not abuse hot water, always cool or lukewarm and drying it with tissues or cotton muslin, never with a towel (which accumulate germs).
Although I know that sometimes we get lazy about this step, it doesn't take us more than 20 seconds. Therefore, we should not resort to the quick alternative, wipes. Since they do not deeply clean the skin, they leave residue, can cause irritation and are not suitable for sensitive skin, eczema or rosacea.
Secondly, we now take into account the consistency of the cosmetic.
We went from using more fluid and light textures and ended with the densest and most consistent ones.
- Anti-pollution serum, vitamins…
- Contour or anti-aging serum /treatment (if you usually use them)
- Treatment cream
It's easy for you, right?
